AND THEY HAD A KING OVER THEM WHICH IS THE ANGEL OF THE BOTTOMLESS PIT PASTOR HOWARD DANIEL, JR. SUNDAY EVENING, MAY 22, 2016 SCRIPTURE READING: REVELATION 9:11-21
|
||
Revelation 9:11, And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. |
1. | BACKGROUND | |
a. | Please refer to the February 28, 2016 Evening Message for the Background. |
2. | INTRODUCTION | |
a. | Please refer to the May 22, 2016 Morning Message for the Introduction. |
3. | SEVEN POINTS TO THE MESSAGE
g. | And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit
1. | Revelation 9:11, And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
2. | These locusts are not identified as ordinary locust.
3. | They have a king over them. Proverbs 30:27, The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
4. | The leader of this group, God identifies as an angel of the bottomless pit.
5. | Satan was given permission to open that pit. Revelation 9:1, And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
6. | I cannot add anything to this verse except they have a king and their names are given in both Hebrew and the Greek.
7. | I cannot go any further than that. |
h. | One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.
1. | Revelation 9:12, One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.
2. | The first Woe introduces us to the last half of the Great Tribulation period and had duration of five months.
3. | The last two “woes” will cover the remaining period of the three and a half years of the seven year Tribulation Period.
4. | They will be the worst of all times. The next trumpet reveals that this is not just an idle warning.
5. | God is intensifying the pressure even more. |
i. | And the sixth angel sounded
1. | Revelation 9:13-14, And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, 14: Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.
2. | God draws our attention to the sixth angel who blows the trumpet.
3. | The golden altar speaks of prayer.
4. | This is where the angel offered prayers at the beginning of the blowing of the trumpets. Revelation 8:3, And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
5. | This angel blows the trumpet and gives a command to “loose the four angels” bound in the River Euphrates.
6. | The command to the angel came from the voice that was there at the horn of the golden altar.
7. | It is believed that this voice is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ.
8. | Having ripped off the seventh seal it leads to the seven trumpets, which will lead to the seven personalities, which will lead to the seven bowls of wrath.
9. | These four angels that are bound in the river Euphrates represent evil.
10. | Releasing them will turn loose a flood of destruction upon the earth.
11. | They were bound away from the other wicked angels possible because of the crime they committed.
12. | It is very difficult to explain all of this in detail; however I believe if we look at Scripture it will tell us that the final serge of sin on earth is during the great Tribulation Period.
13. | The Euphrates River actually marks a division between the east and the west.
14. | We need to look at a couple of things concerning the angels being bound in the river.
a. | This is where the Garden of Eden was.
b. | The sin of man began in the Garden of Eden.
c. | The first murder was committed in this location.
d. | The first war was fought here.
e. | This is the place where the flood that spread over the entire earth began.
f. | The tower of Babel was erected here.
g. | This area was where the Israelites of the Babylonian captivity were brought.
h. | Babylon was the fountainhead of idolatry.
i. | This might give us some indication that these are vicious creatures that are being released.
15. | When we notice the world’s population we find that it is located east of the Euphrates.
16. | China represents ¼ of the world’s population.
17. | There was a notable scholar that said one time that “China is the sleeping giant and God pity the generation that wakes her up.” China is awake, alive and well.
18. | These four angels that are loosed will launch an attack. Zachariah Chapter 5 locates Babylon as the last stand of false religion. Zechariah 5:11, And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base. Daniel 1:2, And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god. |
j. | And the four angels were loosed
1. | Revelation 9:15-16, And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. 16: And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.
2. | The four angels were prepared for an hour, a day, a month and a year.
3. | We must continue to follow our literal interpretation. God is saying what He means and means what He said.
4. | Notice their purpose: “to slay the third part of men.”
5. | At the blowing of the sixth trumpet, we know that a 1/3 of the population of man will be removed.
6. | Here 1/3 is again removed.
7. | ¼ has already been removed.
8. | No wonder the Lord Jesus made the statement in Matthew 24:22, And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
9. | 200 million men could be associated with the keys to the bottomless pit that was given to Satan.
10. | It is not clear to me if this is talking about China, India, and Japan; it could however reach that number if it was.
11. | It could speak of the invasion of the locust and the demons. |
k. | And thus I saw the horses in the vision
1. | Revelation 9:17-18, And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone. 18: By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.
2. | God speaks of horses. We know from Job 39:19-30 that the horse is a creature of war. Job 39:19-30, Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder? 20: Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible. 21: He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men. 22: He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword. 23: The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield. 24: He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet. 25: He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting. 26: Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south? 27: Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high? 28: She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place. 29: From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off. 30: Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.
3. | We will continue to follow our interpretation literally and not speculate on any portion of God’s Word.
4. | The fire is literal, the smoke is literal, the brimstone is literal, and this same type of destruction took place in Sodom and Gomorrah. Matthew 24:21, For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
5. | It is believed the world’s great Tribulation Period will actually be worse than Sodom and Gomorrah. They were brought down because of homosexuality.
6. | It is an accepted lifestyle today, so is same sex marriage.
7. | There is great judgment from God when we allow these things to happen.
8. | At this point 1/3 of the population is killed, 1/3 of nature has already been affected but mankind has never been touched with this kind of magnitude before.
9. | The population of the world is approximately 7.4 billion. This means that about 2 billion will be slain.
10. | Remember ¼ had been slain under the fourth seal.
11. | This decimates the population of the earth.
12. | The Lord Jesus says Matthew 24:22, And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
13. | The human race would be wiped out if the days are not shortened..
14. | God will not allow this to happen. |
l. | For their power is in their mouth
1. | Revelation 9:19, For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
2. | These are unnatural horses which are able to kill with their mouths.
3. | Their tails are like serpents and their heads will “do hurt.”
4. | The purpose is to punish and bring judgment upon mankind. |
m. | And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands,
1. | Revelation 9:20-21, And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: 21: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.
2. | Here we can see the stubborn will of mankind.
3. | God had it right when He said in Jeremiah 17:9, The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
4. | The rest of the men who were not killed by these plagues repented not.
5. | Man is determined to be his own god regardless of what the situation is like.
6. | After all of this affliction that is upon mankind we still have people who will not give in to the Lord Jesus Christ.
7. | The sorcerers will lead us to believe that this is indulgence, drunkenness, and drugs and fornication which lead to theft.
8. | Adultery and prostitution are practiced in the United States to a large degree.
9. | All of these are going to increase and a great emphasis will be place upon them.
10. | The anti-Christ will use all three to bring mankind into subjection to him.
11. | Man is easily misled and deceived. There are saints today who refuse to accept God at His Word.
12. | We want to substitute other things for the Word of God. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-11, Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10: And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11: And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
13. | It is plausible to believe that every person who wants to hear the Gospel will hear it before the rapture of the Church.
14. | Certainly everyone will hear during the Tribulation Period. Matthew 24:14, And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
15. | Paul describes in these verses what happens to those who reject the Word of God. 2 Thessalonians 2:12, That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
16. | The Gospel is available to everyone while the Church is still here on earth. Revelation 22:17, And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
17. | If we reject the truth, we are wide open to the lie of Satan.
18. | He was able to deceive Eve; the anti-Christ will also be able to deceive the Nation Israel.
19. | My friend these are awful times and they should not frighten you if you know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour. If you do not I beg you to ask Him into your heart this very moment.
20. | All of this certainly shows the wrath side of Almighty God and the Lord Jesus Christ who is in charge of it all.
21. | All judgment was committed unto the Son. John 5:22, For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
22. | This has been an awesome chapter, although it could be a frightening ride.
23. | Now we will turn to Chapter 10 and see that there is a pause between the sixth and seventh trumpet. |
4. | CONCLUSION | |
a. | My sinner friend, if you don’t know Jesus as personal Saviour, none of this is possible for you.
b. | Would you come to the side of the living Saviour today?
c. | Regardless of the fact that we have projected ourselves into eternity, the present is we must come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ in this life.
d. | If we don’t know Him, we will be subjected to the wrath of God.
e. | The Bible says in Romans 3:23, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
f. | Romans 3:10, As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
g. | Romans 10:9-10, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10: For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
h. | Matthew 11:28-29, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29: Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
i. | Would you come to the side of the living Saviour today and be saved.
j. | Please stand. |
