MINISTRY OF THE WORD
WORTHY IS THE LAMB THAT WAS SLAIN TO RECEIVE POWER PASTOR HOWARD DANIEL, JR. SUNDAY EVENING, APRIL 10, 2016 SCRIPTURE READING: REVELATION 5:5-14
|
||
Revelation 5:11-12, And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; 12: Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. |
1. | BACKGROUND | |
a. | Please refer to the February 28, 2016 Evening Message for the Background. |
2. | INTRODUCTION | |
a. | Please refer to the April 10, 2016 Morning Message for the Introduction. |
3. | SEVEN POINTS TO THE MESSAGE
e. | And one of the elders saith unto me,
1. | Revelation 5:5, And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
2. | One of the twenty-four elder that were camped around the throne understood that Jesus Christ was the One who could do the job.
3. | John 15:15, Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
4. | When we study the Word of God things get reinforced in our mind.
5. | So many of the generation today want things done by microwave; we want it quick and fast. We do not want to study and listen to the Word of God.
6. | The Lord Jesus Christ is the only one who has the right to the title deed for this earth (world). The Lion of the Tribe of Judah identifies Him as worthy.
7. | When Jacob was dying, he called his twelve sons and this is the prophesy he gave concerning Judah. Genesis 49:9-10, Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? 10: The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
8. | Jesus Christ is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. He is also the root of David.
9. | The Lord Jesus fulfilled prophesy in the Old Testament. He came and laid down His life for mankind.
10. | Jesus Christ started the Church; the Bride of Christ on the day of Pentecost.
11. | One of these days He will come back to this Earth to rule in His Kingdom, but before He does that He will come and take all born again believers to Heaven. 1 Thessalonians 4:16, For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
12. | The King of kings and Lord of lords is the one who makes it all possible. He is the one “to loose the seven seals thereof.”
13. | Remember the number seven is the number of completion. Here we see again the process being brought to completion. |
f. | In the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain,
1. | Revelation 5:6, And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
2. | We know that John is a spectator in all this. Notice “And I beheld,” – He saw “a Lamb” This Lamb denotes gentleness and willingness to be sacrificed.
3. | Christ was led as a lamb to the slaughter and did not open His mouth at all. Isaiah 53:4-7, Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5: But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6: All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7: He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
4. | He was the lamb of God that was slain from the foundation of the world. Genesis 22:8, And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
5. | As John the Baptist says in John 1:29, The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
6. | “a Lamb as it had been slain,” – This is very significant.
7. | This indicates that our redemption has past; it is complete; it is a substitutionary death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross.
8. | The emphasis is on “He was slain.” He was slain by His enemies but at the same time he came to die for our sins.
9. | “stood a Lamb” – This speaks to the resurrection. He is no longer seated at the right hand of the Father; He is now moving in His power. He is coming to Earth. The judgment of the Tribulation is about to strike on the earth.
10. | The winds are already blowing on the earth.
11. | “in the midst of the throne”– indicates that He is before the Throne and is ready to set everything right.
12. | He is the righteous judge. No one can be saved and go to Heaven without having the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
13. | “Seven horns” denotes complete and total power. A horn speaks of power. Daniel Chapter 7and 8 speaks of this.
a. | He is omnipotent– unlimited power;
b. | He is omnipresent– everywhere at the same time;
c. | He is omniscient – unlimited knowledge.
14. | His seven eyes mean complete knowledge.
15. | He moves in the fullness of the Spirit, who is the Spirit of wisdom and understanding.
16. | The Lord Jesus Christ is a lion and a lamb at the same time.
The Lion refers to His second coming. The lamb is characterized of His first coming. He came as a lamb ready to be slaughtered. The lion is symbolic of His Majesty and the Lamb is symbolic of His meekness. |
|||
17. | The Lion is Sovereign; the Sovereign God. All judgment has been committed to the Son. John 5:22, For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: As a lion He will judge. The Lion represents the government of God; the Lamb represents the grace of God. |
g. | And he came and took the book…
1. | Revelation 5:7, And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
2. | God the Father sits on the Throne and the Lord Jesus Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father.
3. | His purpose at the right hand of the Father is to make intercessions for us. He moves now through the time of the Tribulation period.
4. | He is about ready to rule the world in righteousness. Acts 17:31, Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
5. | He is no longer an intercessor for the church because the church is with Him represented by the elders around the Throne. He is beginning to assume His role as Judge.
6. | We have talked about the three offices of Jesus Christ before: prophet, priest and King. Now He is about to assume His Kingly role. |
h. | And when he had taken the book,
1. | Revelation 5:8, And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
2. | When He took the book, speaks of action. He is ready to judge first, then He will rule and reign in righteousness. Remember the Church appeared before the Judgment Seat of Christ.
3. | The Jews are being judged through the Tribulation Period. Just before Christ’s Millennial Reign, the Nations will be judged. Matthew 25:32, And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
4. | It is very important to look and notice the movement of the Lord Jesus Christ as He moves over all creation. Notice the worship of the Lamb by the four living creatures and the twenty four elders. “the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb,”
5. | “having every one of them harps,” – this is praise and adoration. The elders do not play the harps; they are just a token of praise to God.
6. | The twenty four elders act as priests. Only the church is promised to be a priesthood of believers. 1 Peter 2:5, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:9, But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Revelation 1:6, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. |
i. | Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof:
1. | Revelation 5:9-10, And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; 10: And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
2. | Both the living creatures and the elders were able to sing the song of praise. Only praise and worship goes to God.
3. | In Heaven it will be a sweet time of praising God, fellowship and singing.
4. | There will be no sorrow, no pain not any stress. Revelation 21:4, And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5. | You and I will be singing praises unto Him. The song is a new song.
6. | This is the song of redemption to know that the Lord Jesus Christ has bought back all that was lost by Adam. Romans 5:12, Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
7. | The word “worthy” means He has fulfilled the entire spectrum and is worthy of our praise.
8. | “hast redeemed us to God by thy blood” – Only the blood of Christ will cover the sins of mankind.
9. | Heaven will be made of “every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;”
10. | This is the reason why Chesswood Baptist Church has the slogan “Where Everybody is Somebody”
11. | Our doors are open to anyone who wants to come in and hear the Gospel message.
12. | “and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood”
13. | The only mediator between God and man is Christ Jesus.
1 Timothy 2:5, For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; |
||
14. | This has nothing to do with denominations. It has to do with the Bride of Christ and with Israel and bringing people to Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ is the bridge. There is no way anyone can get there without belief in the Lord Jesus Christ and His righteousness.
15. | Christ’s blood cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7, But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
16. | They are praising the Lamb.
17. | Will there be people saved during the Tribulation Period? Absolutely! There will also be people saved during the Millennial Reign.
18. | “kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.” This refers to the Tribulation saints. The Church will not reign on the Earth but over the earth. |
j. | Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power,
2. | John sees ten thousand times ten thousand. I believe he is telling us that he was unable to count the number. This reminds me of that song: Though millions have come there is still room for one; there is room at the cross for you.
3. | The devil makes us believe that nobody wants to get saved and that nobody really is saved. This verse refutes all that.
4. | There was a company of angels around the elders and they were singing. Nobody knows exactly how many were there.
5. | God created people to praise Him and for His glory and his honour. We praise the Lord Jesus Christ for what He has done for us. |
k. | Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
1. | Revelation 5:13-14, And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. 14: And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
2. | God joins in this universal act of worship, both in Heaven and Earth. The animal of the earth, and the fish of the sea all join in to praise God.
3. | The living creatures add their Amen and the Church falls down in silence adoration.
4. | We praise God for redeeming us to Him. All of us deserve a home in hell; but praise God He came to redeem mankind.
5. | This is a rare remarkable scene we see in Heaven.
6. | I hope you have grasped the significance of it all. We see that all praise and honour and worship must go the Lord Jesus Christ.
7. | He is indeed worthy of our praise and worship.
8. | If you are not in a habit of praising and worshipping Him here on earth, you need to start.
9 | At the same time we need to go into the highways and hedges and gather the lost.
10. | Heaven is real my friend, and so is Hell.
11. | This has been a marvelous scene in Heaven, let’s glean from God’s Word. We now look forward to Chapter 6 and see what we can learn. |
4. | CONCLUSION | |
a. | My sinner friend, if you don’t know Jesus as personal Saviour, none of this is possible for you.
b. | Would you come to the side of the living Saviour today?
c. | Regardless of the fact that we have projected ourselves into eternity, the present is we must come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ in this life.
d. | If we don’t know Him, we will be subjected to the wrath of God.
e. | The Bible says in Romans 3:23, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
f. | Romans 3:10, As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
g. | Romans 10:9-10, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10: For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
h. | Matthew 11:28-29, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29: Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
i. | Would you come to the side of the living Saviour today and be saved.
j. | Please stand. |
